如果要我推薦可以在Windows XP、Windows Vista和Windows 7中使用的「免費」防毒軟體，如果您是「原版」的作業系統的話，我都會建議使用微軟自家的「Microsoft Security Essentials」防毒軟體，簡單、快速是我喜歡它的主因。 而沒有推薦在Windows 8安裝，是因為Windows 8的Windows Defender已經內建Microsoft Security Essentials了。

微軟於本周二（7/14）終止更新Windows XP版的Microsoft Security Essentials病毒碼，同時也不再提供支援XP的Malicious Software Removal Tool，讓已失去微軟安全更新的XP作業系統安全風險再升高。 這代表Windows XP上的Microsoft Security Essentials不會再執行任何的病毒碼更新，而且XP用戶也無法再存取新版的Malicious Software Removal Tool以移除電腦上的病毒。

Microsoft Security Essentials （簡稱 MSE，直譯微軟安全要點）是由 微軟 開發及發行的免費 防毒軟體，用於防止 電腦病毒 、 間諜軟體 、 Rootkit 和 木馬 等 惡意軟體，取代了 Windows Live OneCare 和 Windows 7 及更早期版本中內建的 Windows Defender。
