To more easily search and manage your photos, you can apply a label to people or pets that appear in photos grouped by Google Photos.

I understand how to search for people, but the results include any photo with both of them. I'm not interested in group photos, just of photos with ONLY them.

I've always been able to search by a person's name or just a face and now nothing no search capability for any of that.
