A tilt-shift lens, sometimes also called a perspective control lens, is a lens that can adjust the positioning of the internal glass elements. When it shifts optics via the shift function, it alters the perspective of the lens.
But with a tilt-shift lens, you can point your camera straight ahead, then shift the lens to capture a series of perfectly aligned (and distortion-free!) images.
A lens that provides only shift is called a shift lens, while those that can also tilt are called tilt–shift lenses. The terms PC and TS are also used by some manufacturers to refer to this type of lens.
